I have VPI pet insurance and it is great. My dog is only 4 so I don't know about the elder years, but so far they have paid for everything we have sent it. They paid most of his neutering, and he has been to the ER twice and they have paid for most of that as well. Our annual payment to the insurance company is around 530. Our deductible at the vet or ER is 50 and everything over that amount the insurance company takes care of for the most part. How it works is you pay the full amount, have the vet tech fill out a paper explaining the procedures completed, you fax in the form, and you get reimbursed in about 2 weeks. It's pretty painless and has definitely paid for itself. They also offer a cancer package which will take care of most of the costs. It really is a great way to go. And definitely not a scam.
