The only thing I don’t like there is the shipping thing, even if it is legit, I hate the thought of shipping animals like that.

If you need to rehome your cats I think it will be best to find someone you can meet in person and see where they will be and ask questions

It is scum. I had the same email before with exactly the same questions…

    Definitely a scam.

Yeah, that comes off as a scam to me too. It’s all generic, “the pet”, not the 2 cats… It’s written like someone who isn’t a native English speaker, which by itself isn’t bad, but is common for scams. Mary Smith? It’s like the female version of John Doe. And not that your cats aren’t great, but they have them in CA, no need for any shipping. I feel like they’d eventually ask you for your bank account info. Best to keep looking for a good home.

Well, why don’t you just do a follow up email to the person. Tell her you want to get to know her better before committing. It could be a scam, but I also think it’s highly possible this person just wants to know what kind of pet they’re adopting.

If you are unsure about this person then make inquiries yourself. Do a background check of sorts on this Mary Smith. I’m not sure about all the resources there are out there but you could find out some of the vets in her area and send inquiries to them to see if they have ever heard about this person. If she’s willing to pay for transporting the cat then it sounds like she has some influence(money) so she shouldn’t be that hard to check up on. You could also find someone closer to home to give the cat to. That way they would be easier to check up on. I’ve always found it to be right to trust your gut instinct in most cases.

Scam – probably going to ask you to send some sort of “deposit” or something next for the shipping fees. Think about it – unless your cats are somehow very rare, I am positive there are tons just like them in California, at the shelters near this person’s supposed home. And it’s so generic “the pet” – you might as well be offering a rabbit or a dog! And this is why you have to be ever so careful when adopting out a pet. Do not adopt to anyone who won’t send you a personal reference and a vet reference – and then check them!

scam, shipping isnt good. its better if you meet the family in person and visit the home where your cats will be living. and get all info needed from them and see their id to be sure its the person. this sounds like one of them people who pick up pets and take them to labs i think they make like 30 bucks per cat or dog they round up….i would ask for tips on placeing your cats from a good nokill shelter mybe get applications off them and a contract most nokills have contracts they have people sign stating that there will be a home visit to asure the new cats are living in a safe place and they have things in the contract…………..

SCAM – don’t rehome your cats to someone out of state!

its a nigerian scam, they will send you a fake money order asking you to deposit it and then wire the money to their “shipper”. But you are actually sending your own money since your bank will contact you 3 weeks later that the money order was counterfeit. Also, I would not consider shipping pets anywhere. Do you know how many pets die in transit every yet. Find a local home for your pets.
